Shake the winter blues! Four delicious spring smoothie recipes

Spring is finally here. The sun’s out, the colours are bright, and we’re in the mood to “shake” off the winter blues. Get a burst of energy and vitamins with a chilled smoothie in four gorgeous, springtime colours.

Choose your favourite colour and blend all the ingredients. Pour the smoothie in a jar with a thick straw and serve at your next breakfast or brunch gathering. For a cold drink, refrigerate the fruit first to save watering down with ice later.

RED

  • 1 beetroot, raw
  • 1 apple, core removed
  • ½ an orange, peeled
  • a squeeze of lemon juice

Yellow

  • 1 Persimmon, peeled – the riper, the sweeter
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • 100g yoghurt
  • 100ml mineral water
  • a drizzle of honey
  • a squeeze of lime juice

Green

  • 2 medium oranges, peeled
  • 3 - 6 kale leaves (young leaves are less bitter)
  • 1 bunch radishes, plus leaves
  • 1 apple
  • 1/4 litre water (or less, as preferred)
  • 1 slice of ginger (1 cm)

Pink

  • 1 pomegranate, de-seeded and pith removed
  • 1 pink grapefruit, peeled
  • 1 pear, core removed – the riper, the sweeter
