A Happy Home, by Jen from Love Chic Living

DIY Christmas Wreath

As a part of our sixth birthday celebrations, we asked three interior influencers from the blogosphere to invite us into their own homes and show us, with the help of a few of your favourite URBANARA pieces, how to make a little corner in their home that bit happier.

This week in the spotlight is Jen Stanbrook from Love Chic Living, a self-confessed interior design junkie with a distinctively British flair for her exciting use of colour.

Love Chic Living blogger Jen Stanbrook

‘Inspirational but achievable styles for a family home.’

‘Love Chic Living’ was made to showcase gorgeous interiors made for the everyday.

A quick look around Love Chic Living and you’ll immediately get a feel for her style: fresh and contemporary, Jen loves a hint of bold and the unexpected, and likes to inject a head-turner into her own home.

Self-taught in the way of styling and moodboarding, it’s important for her that Love Chic Living remains accessible.

‘There were so many blogs that showcase high-spec and high-range products,’ she said. ‘They’re beautiful, but quite unattainable for someone who was living in a semi-detached or whatever it might be.’

Love Chic Living was thus born to showcase gorgeous interiors made for the everyday. And with a Pinterest following just shy of one million and a swathe of best interior blog awards under her belt, it’s clear that everyone agrees!

Before: The Sofa Corner

For her URBANARA Happy Home makeover, Jen chose a corner in her living room in need of a little TLC. She’d just replaced a small table with a shelving unit, and so was looking for the finishing touches to set it off.

‘The main thing to consider was lighting,’ she said. ‘We used to have a table lamp, but we couldn’t use it with the new shelf.’

It was also a chance to give the room a little shake up.

‘We don’t change up the bigger things too often. It’s a working, living family home. I’ve got two children – we need to live here,’ she explained – so the bigger things tend to stay.

By changing up the accessories, like with her top picks from URBANARA, she can keep the on-trend, style-led look she loves, while keeping her home family-friendly.

After: Comfortable meets stylish reading corner

Keeping the lighting requirements in mind, the Skaro Floor Lamp became the focal style piece, and working as both task and ambient lighting too.

‘The two adjustable lamp heads are great,’ she said, ‘with one directed towards on the couch, and up towards the shelving – and the polished brass is just beautiful.’

The rest of her picks played to a contemporary blue and white palette – very on-trend right now – with a dash of the geometric flair that makes her space modern and fresh.

The Katsura Vases and the Onuma Bowl, whose designs are inspired by origami, paired with the geometric pattern Farum Merino Cushion complete the modern look.

Layering textures was also a part of the overall design style, combining oversized velvet cushions and wool, and contrasting it against her leather sofa and the polished brass finish of the lamp.

‘My girls love texture, and that’s why I knew they would just love the velvet cushions – they’re so soft!’

Finished with the Miramar Lambswool Blanket, the corner was cosy and complete.

Get Jen’s look

As a part of the Happy Home makeover, we asked Jen to share her top bestseller picks to help you create your own little slice of happy.

Her picks build on her own styled look and includes pieces that work well with the theme (and until the 26th February, 2017 are all 20% off).

Matching accessories complete the look.

‘URBANARA tends to mix up its style a little bit, and I love that it has a contemporary edge. Angular pattern and print, gorgeous textures match with polished brass and wools…’ qualities that all feature in her selection

Tips for a Happy Home

With five years of interior blogging experience behind her, and as the owner of a home she and her partner renovated themselves, Jen has good insight into what makes a home happy.

First, it has to be pleasing to the eye…

‘A happy home for me is about how it looks. I’m a bit of a neat freak,’ she admits, wanting her home to look the best it possibly can, in a style that makes her feel good.

‘And I always try to include a wow factor!’

…Second, she is a big advocate of experimentation.

‘Try things out! Go for a small area first, maybe don’t spend too much money, but select a few things that might work together and stick to a colour palette,’ she said.

‘Whether monochromatic or contrasting, it doesn’t matter whether you’re matching pattern or print, it’s the colour that hangs everything together.’

And if Jen’s beautiful home is anything to go by, we wholeheartedly agree.
