A day in the life of an URBANARA Product Scout

SSearching for beautiful homewares around the world may sound glamorous, but an eye for style is just one of the many qualities that an URBANARA Product Scout must possess. Responsible for sourcing classic collections made with love, our experienced team of Product Scouts travel the globe to find high-quality pieces that can be offered to you at affordable prices. Creativity, passion and a feel for different fibres is essential for the product sourcing process. We spent the day with our Product Scout Rachel to learn how she sources new designs for your home.

“Before I start my product search, I take a look at our roadmap for inspiration on colours, styles and general themes for the forthcoming season. Each season has a theme that includes new collections that complement one another, but which also tie into our existing ranges. This research period is therefore a really important part of the process”.

02

“It’s important for us to find suppliers who also share our core values: quality, transparency and delivering true value at no-one's expense. I personally prefer working with smaller suppliers – such as family-run companies – as it allows us to form a real relationship with their team. There are so many different aspects that go into producing a product, and it’s always easier when you have someone at the other end you can rely on to help achieve your vision”.

03

“Once I receive a sample, I do a quality check to see whether the material has the right feel and texture. We currently have almost fifty different blanket collections online and each one has a unique design. Getting the weave or knit right is so important to us, and we work really hard to bring something special detail to each new collection”.

04

“I’m also very particular when it comes to deciding on the choice of colours we’re offering our customers. Do they match the seasonal road map? How many other colours will the design come in? In this case, our Vada Cashmere Blanket in rich, chocolate tones ticks all the boxes – it also has longevity and classic appeal, which is essential for every product we source”.

05

“While it may not be the most interesting part of the job, I make note of all the nitty-gritty details about each design. The fabric density, origins of the material and which city each product is made in are all important for our customers to know, which is why we try to be as transparent as possible”.

“Probably the best part of the process is seeing a product I’ve sourced go online. It is really one of the most rewarding feelings! My favourite product this season is the sumptuously soft Vada Cashmere Blanket. Delicately crafted into a sophisticated herringbone weave, this gorgeous cashmere piece is made in Italy. A must-have for winter, no question”.
