Hemp is a natural bast fibre obtained from the hemp plant. It is a long, very strong, semi-lustrous fibre that can be spun into yarn and blended with other fibres. As hemp does not require any pesticide, insecticides or fungicides to grow, it is a very sustainable and environmentally friendly fibre.

Properties and qualities

Hemp fabrics are very strong with a good lustre. Pure hemp is a very similar fibre to flax which is used to make linen.

How does it feel?

Hemp is quite a coarse, textural material.

Items made from hemp should generally be dry-cleaned to prevent shrinkage, or spot cleaned with warm soapy water. For best results, refer to the care instructions on your hemp product.
