Cowhide

Origins

Cowhide is the natural skin and hair of a cow which retains the original colouring of the animal. It is often used for rugs. Cowhide can be processed into leather to make shoes, wallets, leather jackets and belts. Cowhides are a natural by-product of the food industry from cattle.

Properties and qualities

Good quality cowhides are presented in their natural colours which makes every hide unique. Cowhides are naturally tough and long-lasting.

How does it feel?

Cowhide has a stiff, coarse feel.

Care

We recommend vacuuming cowhide. For cleaning stains, use a damp cloth (without any detergents) and try to remove the stain by dabbing at it. If this does not work, cowhides can be sent to professional cleaners for washing. Cowhide rugs can also be shaken or beaten with a carpet cleaner. For best results, refer to the care instructions on your cowhide product.
