August: Woodland meets Nippon

This season we’re casting our gaze towards the East for inspiration. At URBANARA HQ right now life is all about putting the finishing touches on our Autumn Winter collection ‘Woodland meets Nippon’ – and so we have found ourselves happily ensconced in all things Japanese.

Wooden structures are a key facet of traditional Japanese architecture, and so this natural fibre informs our forthcoming season: renewable resources and sustainable ingredients are key. Throughout August on the journal we will round up our favourite wooden home accessories, and chat to vintage furniture experts about the best way to conserve and incorporate wooden pieces in your home. There’s also top tips on Japanese cuisine from culinary experts, and a DIY project that takes its cue from traditional origami folding techniques. Finally, for those who find themselves lamenting the fact that their holidays are over, we’ve got four ways to relive your summer break from your lounge room – armed with a stack of photos and that ubiquitous Japanese stationery item, washi tape.

We’re always happy to hear your thoughts, so don’t hesitate to email us and tell us what you would like to see more of. Enjoy the last days of summer!
